Visual Art Program Carver is pleased to provide a special visual arts program - The Armory Artists in Residence! This is fully funded by the Carver PTA. We welcome Naomi Buckley and Meriel Stern, teaching artists from The Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena. They are practicing professional artists who bring a rich experience to their teaching and a personal understanding of visual arts. Both Naomi and Meriel earned Masters of Fine Arts degrees and they have been extensively trained as art educators. Each one of our classes, kindergarten through fifth grade, will participate in six art workshops. The emphasis is on the artistic process, rather than simply making a product. It is important that our students gain an understanding of the creative process. The children will learn more about generating their own ideas for problem solving and self-expression. The children will build their knowledge and skills in visual arts. We’ve worked closely with Doris Hausman, The Armory’s Director of School Programs, to develop a program just for Carver students. The teaching artists and our teachers worked together to plan imaginative and age-appropriate art lessons. They aligned the art lessons with standards and identified the connections between the visual arts and specific aspects of the Carver curriculum.
